2010 Reports
Nov 17 - Finished off the season very strong with big Bass, Blues and Tog. Fish still biting, but Luv2fish is done for the season. This time of the year, the winds keep me at the dock more then I can fish. Thank you, for yet another banner year for Luv2Fish. Have a healthy and safe holiday season, will see you next year! Capt. Barb
Oct 28 - Last few days fishing has been pretty good. Bass, Blues, Bonita and Tog in pretty thick any tide.
Oct 21 - Blues and Bass blitzes all over. Jigging working good, but big boys coming off of the chunk. Tog to 19 1/2 being caught! Oct 11 - Blackfishing has been pretty good with limits everyday. Today did a Blue Fish/ Striped Bass trip and had 5 hrs of non-stop action with blues up to 36" (biggest one for Luv2fish this year so far) and keeper Bass. Thanks Pete, Vinny and Rich, was great to get back on the hunt today!
Oct 6 - Well, yesterday was a tease, after almost a week of winds and rain, we finally got back out. Suprisingly we did great with miles of Blues off of the points and shoals on jigs and chunks and even got into a pretty sick Tog bite! Now today, we have high winds again and couldn't get out. Suppose to lay down for the weekend.
Sept 23 - Hey there! Last 2 weeks Porgies are settled in at Oldfield and Cranes with some nice Seabass in the mix. B11 drop off has the fall pattern in full swing diamond jigging alot of Blues and Bass. No big guys there yet, but bait is stacked up nicely in about 45 to 80 ft. The past week have been working hard on harvesting my bait for next year. I was very excited to get some nice numbers of mullet and peanut bunker. Spearing is beautiful. perfect size for Fluking. Speaking of Fluking...I did a Fluke tagging trip the other day and let me tell ya, we had a pretty decent bite! Bonita were in for a week, they left now the Albies are scootching me, lol. Adult bunker moved out, hope they make an appearance again. Have been seeing some enormous bait pods. Fish have been on them, but not alot. I have a feeling it's going to be a blood bath anyday now. I will be fishing for Bass and Blues the upcoming month. If anyone is interested in Blackfishing, although I Blackfish, I just fish the local wrecks and rock piles. If you want some nice big Tog, I highly recommend the Celtic Quest and Osprey just to my west. They hit the far, deep wrecks that I do not venture out to that time of the year in my boat.
Sept 9 - Porgy trips have been excellent off of Oldfield drifting or on the hook. Did some Bassing today, we did have alot of action, but mostly shorts. Gigantic Blues have invaded the area. We are getting them jigging, chunking and on swim baits. Finished off last few days of Fluke season with a ton of shorts. Was a good season and I am already looking foward to the spring run.
August 29 - Whoa!, what a marathon! Bass, Blues and Porgy have been excellent!
August 22 - Hello! As you can tell I have been pretty busy only being able to post once a week. Fishing has been excellent. Large Porgies are in thick off of the local rock piles. Blues ranging from 2lbs to 16lbs have been keeping things pretty exciting. Fluke are still out there, but mostly small shorts now with any occasional keeper. Bass are in the mix, but mostly schoolies the last few weeks. Snappers and Blueclaws in thick...yes, I said Blueclaws! Bonita are spotty. Nice pods of peanut bunker just coming in. Spearing nice and big now. Killies plentiful. Booked next few weeks, hope to see you in the fall. Have a nice weekend.
Aug 12th - Fishing has been pretty awesome. abundance of bait has made fishing quite interesting lately.
August 6th - Fishing has been action packed. Ton of bait in the water. Been live-lining for some big chompers. Bass hid last few days because of the invasion. Fluke will be back in a week, I know it! Bonita all over everyday.
August 4 - Fluke fishing has tapered off a little. There are alot of Fluke, but mostly shorts. However, I know they will be back shortly. This time of the year we have a few down weeks, then they make one more nice run. Adult Bunker all over the place. Filled the well nicely last few days. Bass and Blues on tins and topwater. Bonita are in. Booked the entire month of August, have a few openings for September.
July 26 - Had our work cut out for us with the stiff NW this morning, Made a few location changes and were able to get into some Fluke, Bass and Blues. Keeper Fluke have slowed down a little, but we are still landing a few keepers each trip.
July 22 - Fluke fishing excellent. You have to go through a lot of shorts, but you will be rewarded with a few nice ones. Blues on topwater, Bass in skinny.
July 16 - Hey! Filming went great, we got into an awesome Fluke bite. Will be airing on Verses TV, not ESPN. ESPN dropped all there fishing and hunting shows. Was a great experience for me, but boy am I looking foward to getting back to my charters. Taking the day off tomorrow and will be back on track starting Sunday. Thank you to all my buddies, family and clients for all your support in this event.
July 12 - Fluke fishing has been excellent. Adult and peanut bunker have moved into the area along with snappers. I will be with ESPN the rest of the week filming a show on Fluke and topwater. Look foward to getting back to my charters next week. Will keep you posted.
July 6th - Fluking remains good, but you have to go through alot of shorts before you get a keeper. Small Blues blitzen all over and Bass continue to be in nicely.
July 1st - Hey Guys! Last week fishing has been good. Not as many keeper Fluke from the week before, but a few nice ones in the mix. Scup moved off of the shoal and starting to hit the local rock piles. Blues all over. On the Bass front, I have not had a chance the last week to target them in the sound, but in shallow they have been some nice Bass over 32" coming up.
June 25th - My Greek buddies from Brooklyn out today for a Porgy Fest. And a fest it was!
June 24th - Hot it was today, but west wind kept us a little cool, otherwise we would of been bacon strips. Nice bite today with 5 keeper Fluke and a few Blues.
June 22th - Happy Fathers Day! (sorry for being late on that, been a little busy ) I got to spend some time on the water with my Father, kids and friends. Made a bbq and cooked everything we caught right on the beach. I also taught my kids how to do catch and release with the Bass they caught. Fishing is doing pretty good still. Fished yesterday with Bart and Ken and got into some nice size Fluke up to 7 lbs, Blues and Scup in the mix as well while bucktailing. Fluke seem to be getting into more concentrated pods now. It might take a while to find them, but when you do they are quality fish.
June 18th - Fast and furious was the ticket this morning. 6 keeper Fluke, Scup and Blues.
June 17th - Last few days Fluke continue to be pretty good, but mostly shorts with a few keepers in the mix. Giant Porgies still in the area. Keeper Bass being caught almost everyday. Today was a bit challenging to say the least with that stiff west wind, but we managed to have an agressive bite in that mess. I gotta go do some laundry! Nite guys!
June 13th - Fluking continued to be strong today with a few nice keepers again. Mostly all Fluke and no birds. A bass in the mix and a dropped beauty ;)
June 12th - Fishing is on fire!
June 9th - This is one trip that I will never forget. Miles long of blitzen Huge Porgies! Yes...Porgies! that had Bass on them! Few dozen Bass caught on plugs up to 20 lbs, So much for Fluking today, lol.
June 8th - Whoa! What a bite today! Blitzen 2lb Scup, nice Bass rolling, Blues and of course alot of nice keeper Fluke!
June 7th - Lindsy, Veronica and Janet had a nice mix bag today of Bass, Blues, Fluke and a suprise 16" Sea Bass!
June 4th - Last few days we must of caught a few hundred Bass, Blues and Fluke. Mostly shorts, but a few keepers in the mix. Loads of sandeels in the water from 12 ft to 60 ft.
June 1st - Hey! Awesome Fluke, Bass and Blue bite today!
May 28th - Fluke continue to settle in nicely in the local waters. Bass and Blues are right on top of them working the pods of bait.
May 26th - East winds put a small damper on Fluking last few days, but yesterday found them pretty thick again. Fluke coming up every 30 seconds with a few nice keepers in the mix that lasted for 4 hours. Blues and Bass are starting to blitz the tons of sandeels out there.
May 20th - Nice Fluke bight today with the Jersey boys! Went home with 5 keepers for dinner tonight.
May 16th - Wow, what a day! Jessica and her Dad Perry onboard for pretty much non stop fluking when the tide was running. Jessica's Fluke came in at just over 8 lbs. Way to go!
May 15th - Fluke in the a.m. started off pretty good. First drift was actually the best one. We picked up 1 keeper and 6 shorts. Next few hours we landed about another dozen. Fish were healthy and fat! P.M. trip for Bass was 2 keepers and a few shorts. Few Blues landed today working the schools of sandeels for Fluke.
May 11th - Nice Bass inside and out with many keepers that we released.
May 9 - Past week has been a little inconsistant. One day we do awesome on the Bass, next day, not one. Lot of life coming into the area (peanut bunker! and spearing). Fluke are in the area and I think openning day is going to be quite impressive!
April 29th - Thank you all that attended seminar at Great Oak. Had a great time talking about fishing in a boat! Fished today in skinny. Wind was honking, did not expect much. Well.....I dunno what happened to the schoolies, it just went right to the big boys! Cool Beanz!

2009 Reports
Nov 15 - Luv2Fish is out for the season. 2009 was a banner year! Lot of fish and of course landing a boat record Fluke just over 9lbs was a big accomplishment. Have a great holiday and winter and again thank you for all your support over the years. I cannot believe it has been 5 years already! Have a seminar coming up in Feb 2010 with George Poveromo from ESPN. Information is on the home page. Hope to see you there to break up the winter blahs.
Oct. 2 - When the winds lay down.......it's all good. Nice Bass and Blues in thick on the chunk and diamond jigging. Skinny water not to shabby either.
Sept 30 - Afternoon guys. Well, this wind is doing a number on Luv2Fish lately. Haven't been out much. Love the fall for the fishing, but stinks the NE winds come with it to. Speaking of the fall, anybody that is interested in a Tog trip I recommend the Lori C out of Stonybrook, The Celtic Quest and Osprey out of Port Jefferson. My boat just gets to hammered in the fall to hit the tog locations. The boats that I listed are all great captains and fisherman (and have bigger boats, lol). So good luck all you togsters out there. Happy Fall Fishing!
Sept 20 - John and his son's Tom and Joe onboard today. Started off a little slow not being able to find any adult bunker, but finished the day off strong jigging the last of the incoming on the ledge connecting nicely in about 60ft with Blues. Tom (5th grader) was high hook today getting Scup, Seabass, Fluke (released) and Blues, way to go Joe!
Sept 15 - Evening! Blues, Bass and Albies/Bonita working pods of bait all over. Scup has been pretty good with a few big guys in the mix on the local rock piles. Skinny was off after the blow, but picked up nicely today in about 5ft of water. Looking foward to the fall run! Night....
Sept 3 - Fishing remains pretty good with a mix bag almost everyday. Speedster out in full force along with some nice Blues, Bass and Porgies. Bart and Ken out tonight for an awesome sunset fishing trip!
August 27 - Last week has been pretty good. Bass and Blues jigging, chunking or livelining. Big Porgies in local areas and Skinny Water Bassing is undescribable! Tremendous pods of all baits in thick. As you know we have some weather coming in for this weekend. If your fishing the WICC, please be careful and best of luck to all.
August 20 - Fluke season 2009 is sadly over. Was a banner year for Luv2Fish with nice Fluke coming over the rails between 5 and 9 lbs. Will be concentrating the next few months on Skinny Water Bass, Seabass, Scup, Blues/Bass. Thanks to all my salty friends, clients and family for making the first half of fishing season 2009 a success!
August 14 - Had a few days rough seas. Today was beautiful. John and Lindsay caught a nice 7 pound Fluke (John's hunch on using a whole squid paid off!) along with a few dozen shorts. Was a pleasure fishing with you again Janet and Henry, have a great time at the party. Had a 1/2 dozen Bass in skinny water yesterday with John from Texas, did not stay out to long, was difficult with the wind, but the little fishing we did do, was pretty good action. Only a few more days for Fluking guys, catchem up! Wish I could take everyone, but I'm booked solid.
August 6 - All good fellas. Fluke, Bass, Blues and Porgy all running strong. Still ton of sandeels in the water. Snapper, spearing and killies are in. All tides are producing fish.
July 29 - Evening fellas! All good! Fluking hot!!!! I ran out of bait, imagine that....I had to buy it, lol. Skinny Bassing not to shabby with some nice keeper size Bass and chompers to 10lbs in the mix. Ledges holding Bass and Blues on the chunk and diamond jigging. Snappers are in! After Fluking I'm going to switch over to Middle Grounds, but as long as this Fluke bite is hot I cannot leave it.
July 22 - Fluke bite remains to be solid. About 12 keeper size Fluke today (only kept 8) in the first 2 drfits. Jerry, Vito, John and Henry onboard for an unbelievably fun day! Ton of bait in the water is keeping them thick. Skinny water Bassing remains good as well with a keeper coming up every trip.
July 16 &17 - Thurs did some Fluking with my Jersey Crew. Ton of shorts, but Jake managed a beautiful fish for the dinner table. Friday had Carl out for some Skinny Bassing. Little on the slow side but we managed a few. One Bass was a keeper at 29" that was quickly released.
July 15 - Bart and Ken out this evening. Nice Fluke bite with Flukies to 25" and a few Blues. Night guys!
July 14 - Good afternoon anglers! Yesterday I had a nice Bass bite with some keepers with my son Tommy and his friend Mike. Today Joe and Stan from Jersey came out to do some Fly Fishing. Started off a little slow, but we finished up with a really nice bite during "slack". Bass were from micros to 26" today. Had a big chomper take off have of a Bass's body, pretty cool to watch. Awesome day fellas, great company, loved your Jersey accent.

June 27 - Rina, Lauren, Ethan and Doug onboard today for a Bluefish bonanza. First day I did not need rain gear, lol. Finally a beautiful day on the water with a great crew.
June 26 - Evening ladies and gents. Once again we had to dodge a few severe storms today. In the early a.m. before the storms had some nice Bass action, all shorts today. Went out to the ledge for some diamond jigging and connected on every drift with Blues. The incoming tide was pretty hot today for about 4 hours with acres of blitzes from Port to Mt. Sinai. Saw the first sighting today of peanut bunker. They were tiny, but hey, it's a start.
June 25 - Weather last few days has been rainy, cold and funky but we still managed to get some nice fish. Today had Tommy onboard and everything connected nicely. The visibility and weed in the water started to clear. In the early a.m. we had nice keeper Bass between 28" and 32" that were all released. Early afternoon we worked pods of Bluefish that were blitzen on sandeels and the later p.m. we filled up the buckets with some nice size Porgies.
June 20 - Andy and Matt onboard today for some nice Porgies, keeper Seabass, Blues and Bass. Although we did not get any brutes on the Blue and Bass front, we had action the entire day deep and on the surface. Thanks guys, had a great day on the water with you. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE, SIT BACK AND RELAX ONE DAY, YOU DESERVE IT! Besides the weather is suppose to be crappy tomorrow.
June 18 - I don't know about you guys but I have had it with this rain! First half of Fluke season 2009 was a success. Largest and most Fluke I have seen in a few years Skinny water Bass suprised me as well, getting some big boys that I normally wouldn't see until July. Next few weeks will be targeting Porgies, Bass and Blues. Then will be back to Fluking July 3rd. Nice concentration of bait in the water this year, only thing I haven't seen yet in our area is killies. Just want to give a shout out to say thankyou to all my clients and friends that have enabled me to be chartering for my 5th year now. Without all the support of YOU, I would not be here typing this to you.
June 14 - Hey guys, last few days.....Skinny hot with some nice Bass. Fluking with Phil and Arnie today was good with Fluke up to 7 pounds. Big Porgy in the area. Spearing, sandeels and squid all over. Bass and Blues in the mix on the later tides.
June 10th - Skinny with Saddlebags Tom today. Sweet bite with some nice Bass. I had the big guy hooked up that I lost last year. Unbelievable fight.....yup, lost him again.
June 9th - Hey Guys! Last few days, Fluking has been a little bit more challening, but we are still managing some keepers. Skinny water Bass is Hot! Today's trip with the Jersey boys was interesting with the storms coming through, but we toughed it out with some Blues, Bass and one keeper Fluke. Thanks guys for all my goodies.
June 6th - Lot of big fluke to 9 lbs over the rails today!
June 4th - Delayed the trip 2 hours this morning due to weather, but as soon as we got out it paid off big time. First 2 drifts and we landed 7 nice keeper Fluke! Nice bite all day until it slacked off. Even got a 26" inch Striper in the mix. Luke, Yvonne, Janet and John, it was a pleasure today...thank you! John, see ya Tues with the boys.

May 20 - Banner day today with Ed, John and Carolynee. Limitted in first hour, threw back over 40 nice Fluke. Had a great time guys. Thank you!
May 19 - Meg and Carl out today. What a day........is an understatement! Had over 2 dozen Fluke all over 5 lbs. Great having you guys out today. Congrats on your new boat and your weight-loss goal of over 200 pounds!!!! Thanks guys, see you soon.
May 17 - Welll..... we had a stiff north wind in the early a.m that was going to make bucktailing for Fluke tough. Went to plan "B" and saved the day. Every Bass was just about a keeper plus size! except for my micro mini, lol.
May 16 - Evening guys! Had a great bite today on the Fluke front. 4 nice keeper Fluke to just over 6 pounds landed by Kat, Pablo and Joey. The bait was in real thick! Honestly have no idea how many we got, the bite was non stop for 3 hours. The keepers we did get were SWEET!
May 15 - I know, I know it was openning Fluke season today.....BUT, I had to hit up the sweet Bass bite first with Kevin. Fished the outgoing and had about a dozen shorts, with one nice 30 incher. During slack we re-grouped and set up with some 1/2 ounce bucks and were off to the Fluking grounds. Had a great openning day bite. Got about 18 Fluke just under keeper size and a few keepers to 24". Thanks Keven, see you with the crew next week!
May 14 - Last few days have been a blast on the Bass front. Mostly schoolies but every day we are getting a keeper or two in the mix. Wishing everyone a great Fluke season!
May 11 - Beautiful Bass action to 30" today. Lots of bait in thick. Cannot wait to go Flukin! Thanks Steve for fixing my Grady!
May 8 - Nice Bass bite today inside and out. Sandeels in thick and the Bass have found them. One keeper and the rest shorts. Blues made an apearance today as well. Nice casting method today Tommy!
May 6 - Last week has been all schoolies. Fished the outgoing Weds with Vinnie Ann and Carolyn. First thick Bass blitz I saw for the year so far. They were stacked up the last of the outgoing between Port and Mt. Sinai. I got them on Bucktails and the ladies got them on tins.
April 27 - Sandeels and spearing moving in! Nice bite on schoolies today. See you soon!
April 13 - Hey fellas and ladies, we made it through the winter, whewww! Happy to report the Grady is in the water and I have been on scouting missions for bait and Bass. Few sightings here and there, but not thick enough yet. Water temp was 40 in the sound and 42 in the harbor (surface temp). Discovered a few new humps, bumps and rips that looked interesting that formed over the winter. Only time will tell. Looking foward to seeing everyone soon. Have a safe, fun and adrenaline pumping season, see you on the water! Capt. Barb.
2008 Reports
Nov 20 - Hey there guys. Grady is out for the season. Raft is still in, but the ten day forecast does not look to good for skinny water. Just wanted to say thank you to all my clients, friends and family for making 2008 another success for Luv2Fish. Had a great spring with some nice keeper Bass, the summer landed us some nice fluke up to 9 lbs and we got a load of Blues this year over ten pounds. Not sure of my seminar schedule yet for the winter, but I will post it on here when I get it. Have a great off season and happy healthy holiday. See ya in 2009.
Nov 12 - Last few days Bass and Blues have been stacked up feeding on sandeels, rainbait, bunker, shad, mullet, ect between Oldfeild and B11. They are hitting on both tides, but outgoing seems to be best. Chunking, livelining and diamond jigging have all been productive. Blues are between 2 and 12lbs.
Nov 8 - Hola guys. Last few days........Chunking at Cranes with Carolyn produced non stop blues to 8lbs. Then went to B11 for some diamond jigging and picked up where we left off. Weds was a noreast.com moderator trip on the Celtic Quest. We took a long ride, but it was worth it. We all had some nice Tog to take home for dinner. Thank you Desi, crew and George from Noreast.com. Thurs hit Middle grounds with Tommy for some bottom fishing and non stop blues. Today was a skinny water trip with Frank. We landed 6 Bass between micro size and 26". Had some nice Bass blitzes breaking on bunker, that was a sweet sight to say the least!
Oct 27 - Kurt and John out today for some Tog, Seabass and a 4 hour long bloodbath of blitzen blues!
Oct. 24 - Local rock piles holding tog. Mostly shorts, but a few keepers here and there. Blues between 6 and 8lbs on fresh bunker chunks and heads off of Old Field. Skinny Bass 14lbs. Could it be they finally found the bait??? I dunno, we will see. This blow coming in is gonna kill it for a few days. RATS!
Oct. 22 - As you can see it's blowing NW 30 today. YIKES! Fall is a great time the year to fish, but unfortunately it brings some high winds that my Grady cannot handle. Last 4 days of fishing was not to bad. On days we could get out there was acres of sandeels working the shoal with some Blues under them. Togging some local rock piles did produce a lot of Tog, but most were just short. Fishing the harbor has been outstanding. Loads of big baits in the water with gorilla Blues slamming them. Bass have been a little tough lately, but I feel with this cold snap they will be setting up for a great fall run. I am booked the next week, but I should have a few more opennings before I take the boat out.
Oct 17 - Last few days. Finished off Porgy season with some nice humpbacks. Chunked and livelined at Oldfield with a nice bite on the Blues and some Seabass. Today's trip with John and Kurt was suppose to be a Tog trip, but the seas were to rough so we went to plan B. Got some nice fresh bait and livelined a few to have them immediately crush up and inhaled by some big Blues. Had a nice bite for 2 hours then it was zippo. Booked for the next week, but I have opening after that.
Oct 11 - First Tog trip of the season. Billy and Chris connected with a few keeper Tog and 1 nice 18" Seabass. About a dozen humpback Porgies and some 8lb Blues! So I guess you could call that a mix bag!
Oct 9 - Last few days of charters with Carolynn and Tommy have been excellent. Large baits have moved into the area in the sound and back bay. Livelining, chunking and trolling have produced some big blues to 14lbs. Bass have been just shy of keeper size.
Sept 26 - Some nasty weather has kept us at bay last few days. Looks like it's going to be a few more days of this. Next week my fishing will be limitted due to schedule. I should be ready to fish again 2nd week of October. My computer will be down for a few days as well as my phone. If you need to get me I can be reached on my cell phone 516-635-9456 or leave a email on my contact page. Thanks and I look foward to fishing the fall run with everyone!
Sept. 23 - Carolynn out this morning for some blues to 10lbs, 1 keeper Bass at 29" and a few schoolies. Applogize for no photo's, having problem with website.
Sept 20 - Jigging, chunking for a few nice blues to 12 lbs. Few nice size Porgy's to boot.
Sept 17 - Last few days...hit skinny, Cranes, Smithtown Bay, Middle Grounds. Bass have been all schoolies to 26" Blues in the 5 to 10 lb range, Porgy's pretty much all keeper size and up with a nice keeper seabass every now and then. Had a nice showing of Alby's today for about 3 minutes. Also today.....middle grounds had acres and acres of birds.
Sept 10 - Al on the prowl this morning in skinny. First hour nothing doing. We eat some bananas then all hell breaks out. In the next hour we landed 6 Blues between 10 and 12 lbs, 2 Bass 26" and lost one brute. Left them biting.
Sept. 9 - Skinny with Jeff for a bit this morning before the skies openned up on us. Some big Blues and schoolies to 26". Dropped a sweet fish, as he continued to spool me I had to make a choice, tighten the drag or move the boat up on him. I chose to tighten the drag. Had the drag locked down and he was still pulling out line, me, Jeff and the raft! Fought him about 30 seconds and he was gone. This is one of the things I love about fishing...THE UNKNOWN.
Sept. 8 - Spent some quality time with the chief today. Snapper and spearing were on the menu. Brought back memories from when I was a kid fishing with Dad. Life is to short guys. When your number is up it's up. Enjoy life while you can with your loved ones and things that you might of taken for granted over the years because you were so busy, take the time to smell the roses and be grateful for what you have.
Sept 5 - A.M. bite with Chris landed us a sweet 16" Seabass. P.M bite with Bart and Ken was a bloodbath on the chunk. Every 3 minutes rods bending with Blues to ten pounds.
Sept 4 - Sweet bite on the skinny with Tommy. Bass were schoolies with a few nice ones for our veiwing. Big Blues crushing the bait. Tommy landed his biggest today. Congrats!
Sept 3 - Fall fishing should be pretty good this year. We have tons of bait in the area. Looking foward to my next few charters. But then again, was just checking the forecast for the weekend and it's not looking to good.
Well that wraps up Fluke season 2008. Would of like to finish with a bang, but hey......you know how fishing goes. Overall was a good year, but I was disappointed our bite went to shorts so quickly. Had some nice 5-6-7-8-9 pound Fluke earlier in the season. Congrats again goes out to Meg for landing Luv2Fish's biggest Fluke just over 9lbs!
August 30 - Little choppy in the a.m. so we stayed local until it settled down a bit. Some nice size blues working the local beaches to ten pounds. Headed out Fluking and just a few shorts and some more blues.
August 29 - Dave and crew out for some Fluking. Headed to the east and could not get any keepers. About a half dozen shorts, ton of birds and a bluefish bloodbath. Beautiful day and great company though!
August 27 - Last few days, Blues to 10 pounds. smaller ones working the shoreline, Porgy's chewin on the rock piles, Schoolie Bass to 25" in the mix. Peanut bunker in, just a little on the small size still. Fluke are there, just been all shorts. Have a few more fluke trips before the end of the season, hopefully we land a few keepers.
Aug 21 - Last few days - Night Bassing trip with artificials fishing the inlets and sanbars was a good bite, but all on the small side. Weds with Hugh and his son Joseph in the a.m. was a bit challenging. Rough seas though did not stop 9 years old Joey from fishing. He caught a ton of short Fluke and some Blues. Lot of bait in the water right now. Pretty much everything you can think of!
Aug 13 - Fluke trip to the west and east today. Incredible bite, but all shorts for John and his crew. Blues in the area as well as a few spottings of the speedsters! See ya soon John, P.S. The water was 74 today lol.
Aug 9 - Fluke bite with Katherine and her family was pretty good. We headed east. Mostly shorts to 20", but we did get 2 keepers. Blues blitzen on sandeels and spearing from Mt. Sinai all the way east past B-9. Overview of last few days...Fluking has been hit or miss. Some days there agressive and bite is hot, some days, you scratch your head where the heck did they go so fast. BUT.....still better then it's been in previous weeks. Been fishing from Cranes east to 9 and all areas filled with ton of bait.
Blues all over the place.
Bass are hitting in the a.m or right at dusk pretty good.
Spearing, snappers, killies all getting nice and plump!
Still did not get any nuts yet.
Aug 8 - Last few days. Fluking is okay, but you have to sort through a ton of shorts. BUT, the short Fluke are quality 19" and 20" Fluke. Blues all over the place blitzen on the spearing and sandeels. Porgy's to the east. Bass in the skinny......speechless.
Aug 2.3,4 - Billy from Brooklyn and his buddy Chris (chef from Blue Ribbon in Manhattan) and I hit the Fluking grounds in the early a.m. on Saturday. Tons of shorts and Blues on the shoal. We managed a couple of keepers before the weather got a little ugly. Thanks Billy and Chris, had a great time and as usual lot of laughs, especially when we hit the raft afterwards.
Night trip with Caitlin and her Dad Joe from Florida for Bass, was a little on the slow side with just a few schoolies. But….it was great company, good time and we got to catch up. You are an inspiration Caitlin for all the young ladies out there that are into fishing. It sure beats shopping doesn’t it???!
Saturday night trip with Arnie for Fluke was non stop action on the shorts. Unfortunately no keepers for us that night. BUT, had rods bent all night with shorts and Blues. Thanks for the CD!
Monday A.M. trip with Scotty was unbelievably awesome. We started off digging some fresh clams and worms. Then seined some very nice spearing and killies. Then off to the Bassing grounds. Wow, were the Bass shallow today! I’m talking 2 feet! You can actual see them swimming through the little rips. I felt like we were on National Geographic today with all the life around us between the many species of turtles we spotted, lots of different water foul around and of course all the different species of fish we spotted. Anyway, Scotty and I crushed the Bass today….almost everyone a keeper. The biggest was 34”. All Bass of course released. We had a lot of double hookups today that was a blast. Thanks Scotty, had a great time! Guys, I’m booked solid next few weeks. For anyone that called or emailed me regarding trips, I will catch up today. For anyone interested in a trip, even though I’m booked, sometimes I get cancellations.
Fluke, Blues, Bass and Porgies all up the coast line feeding on the sandeels. No matter where you go from east to west in 16 to 30ft you will get on the fish. I’m still using Spro’s, but they are so thick you can probably get them on anything you toss at them. Blues boiling all over. Mostly cocktails, but a few 8 pounders in the mix.

Still have a few raft trips planned that hopefully will get me that 30 pounder I know is out there. Fished the south shore and landed some Bass to 22 lbs on peanuts with the "Aquaholic", cannot believe there is someone out there as nuts as me...
Oct 16th - Vinnie Ann onboard today. Finally a nice day on the water with no winds. Had some fun livelining for brutes.
Oct 15th - Had Carl and Don onboard today for the first Tog trip of the season. Hit some local rock piles with a ton of action but mostly all shorts.
Oct 11th - Had raffle winner John (Reelfisher) out for some Bass fishing today. Typical fall weather, windy, rainy and cold, but we still fished. Bass action was pretty much as exciting as I last fished it, just the Bass weren't as big. I guess I got spoiled there for a bit.
Oct 9th - Pete and Ron nailed Blues today between 32" and 34". We lost a nice Bass on the side of the boat that we don't need to discuss how big he was!!! line wrapped under his gilplate before I had the net under him! Snikies!! All in all nice day on the water. All fish today were on bunker heads and live Porgy at Middle Grounds.
Oct 3rd - Bass, Blues, Porgies, Seabass, Bonita are pretty much everywhere now. Best time of the year to fish. Blues to 8lbs and Bass to 22 pounds were taken from Middle Grounds to Mt. Sinai.
Sept 30th - Hot bite at Middle Grounds with Bass in Blues, but even hotter in the Skinny waters of Long Island. Congrats to Arnie for landing his first keeper Bass of 34"!
Sept 28th - Fishing was a little slow in the sound today, but we scored big doing some skinny water bassing! Bass to 37", 20lbs!, Check out the pic in the photo gallery.
Sept 27th - We had a nice Bluefish bite at Middle Grounds until the Waterspout came along. Came down about 2 miles south east of us. Wicked stuff!
Sept 20th - Rough conditions kept us from getting to Middle Grounds. We fish some local rock piles for a mix bag of Blues, Porgy's and one nice Seabass. But overall, sadly the fish had lockjaw for us today....
Sept 17th - Last few days Blues, Bass and Porgy's continue to be caught at Middle Grounds. Blue fish blitzes are showing up pretty much everywhere. Bass are getting a little bigger in the back bays now.
Sept 13th - Gorilla Blues in the forecast today (livelined with Porgy's) and some big Porgy's and Seabass.
Sept 9th - Today was Mr. Elliot's first day fishing. Other then holding the reel upside, he looked like a pro...Lots of blues today, all between 4 and 7 lbs.
Sept 8th - Wow, what a bite today in the Middle with Vinnie Ann. Keeper Bass to 32", Big Blues, Porgy, Seabass and Fluke. We even had a Big Black Harbor Seal keeping us company today!
Sept 7th - Had a mix bag today with Bob. One short Bass (25"), 1/2 dozen blues 6 lbs, 20 blues between 1 and 3 lbs, Porgy's, short Seabass, one keeper fluke and one nice bass that we lost, that I don't even want to talk about. Started off the early a.m at Middle Grounds to get the last of the incoming, nice bite for 2 hours. Then brought up the hook and drifted by B11. I think we would of gotten more fluke, but there were so many blues you couldn't really get your bucktail to the bottom without a hit. Nice day on the water today.
Sept 4th - Spent the morning with Dad getting spearing for fluke season 2007 (providing we have a fluke season next year). So I get Dad in my little inflatable, god, I love him dearly. Head into some grass lines. We filled two 5 gallon buckets in a half hour. It brought me back to my roots hearing him say to me "I will take the deep end, you go shallow". Or, "Barb, your going to far ahead of me, slow down, or wait a second, lets eat a few of these spearing while they are alive". Yup, Dad and I ate a few spearing raw and alive for old times sake, they weren't that bad. Thanks Dad for spending the morning with me, I miss those times.
August 31 - To rough to go in the a.m. Snuck in a bass trip in the p.m. on the raft. There getting bigger, fatter and real healthy looking. Fiesty might I ad also.
August 30 - Dr. G and family had a great bluefish bite at Middle Grounds today. All caught on the hook in 20 ft of water. Nice blitzes on the way back in 100ft of water about 1/4 mile long.
August 26 - We fished the WICC Tourney this weekend. Strong east wind kept us from getting to Middle Grounds. So we set up in Port Jeff Harbor until the winds layed down. We managed about a dozen blues for the day, but they were all under 7lbs. Decent amount of fluke caught in there also.
August 23 - Fished from Port to the Light with Sallie and Don. About a dozen blues to 7lbs and 4 fluke between 18 and 19" and one 27" bass. Fluke on bucks and blues and bass on chunks. Beautiful day on the water today.
August 21 - Bob and boyz (cuties I might add) were into nice bluefish action in the middle. Blues between 5 and 10lbs were caught. About a half dozen short fluke and one very large Porgy on a chunk!
August 19 - Fished hard today and could not produce any big boys. Fished all over. A few short fluke, a few blues and a couple of short bass. Tomorrow's another day....
August 18 - Set up chunk tonight with Tom and Roger. Four Bass all 27", 12 blues with 4 of them between 10 and 14lbs. Nice action until the tide ran out.
August 16 - Fluking a little slow today so we went out to the middle by the Light and chunked for Bass in about 30ft. Bunker not even hitting the bottom or was my chum pot over and we were in! Action lasted for almost 2 hours. Was all on the incoming tide in bright day sunshine! All Bass today to 32" and no blues. We seem to be catching more bass now under sunlight, then early morning or evening.
August 10 - Chunking trip today with all Blues, no Stripers. Did not get to fluke today, next time out hope to find a new batch. Special thanks to Ron for helping me get bait this morning.
August 6 - Fluking a little slow in the Bay today. Need to find where they went.
August 5 - Nice fluke in the Bay again today. Jim, Don and Ron caught fluke to 22" and a couple of blues. On slack we traveled to a "little ripple" that hooked us into a 35" Bass. Thanks guys for letting me take her in, it's been a while! Also thank you Ron for seining with me this morning!
August 4 - Well today's bite was not on fire like yesterday, but Jim, Bill and Silas had a few keepers to 21" for the dinner table tonight. Bite was nice in the a.m fishing the flats in Smithtown Bay between 4 and 8 foot. We used 3/8 ounce Spro's with teasers. Most keepers came on Silas's "yellow" teasers tipped with spearing. And then we ran out of bait!!! Tragic...we went though 12 bags of spearing in a couple of hours. Sorry guys, won't happen again!
Hit Cranes on the way back. By then we had a stiff north wind blowing about 15 with gust to 20 it was hard to hold bottom even with 8 ounces. Not a fun way to fluke fish so we called it a day.
August 3 - Dog days of summer my a$$!!! Awesome fluking today with Allan, Allyson, Ashley, Gary & Jessica. We set up in 40 foot but nailed them between 8 and 6 foot of water on 1/2 ounce bucks. We caught more keepers today then shorts. All fluke were between 18" and 21". Way to go girls! Showing Dad how it's done that is.
Whew! To hot to fish.
July 30 - Bass to 29" today on bunker.
July 29 - Set up the chunk this morning,Bass to 30" came onboard with plenty of blues. Arnie and Ron did A okay today!
July 27 - Just when you think Fluking might of slowed down a bit, Don brings in a 25 incher 6lb fluke today! Way to go Don, congratulations!
July 26 - Put my charter (Ron) to work this morning seining with me. Well it paid off, we pretty much limitted in our first drift with the fresh live spearing, peanut bunker and snappers we had. Fluke were between 20" and 21".
July 22 - My charter this morning with Ben, Peter and Tessa was going great until the winds and storms came through. Drifting between 1.9 and 2.6 knots does not make for productive fluking! (even with the bucket over) Before the weather came through we did manage fluke between 18" and 20" and a few nice Porgy's.
July20 - Headed out this morning with John, Peg, Joe and Caity. Stiff ENE wind kept us in the harbor. No problem............we got over 30 bass and blues on my 8ft raft. Bass were schoolies between 14" and 26", with one keeper that we dropped raft side...rats!
July 19 - Some nice 3 to 4 pound fluke came onboard this mornings charter with Bob and Hank. Also had some fun with blues. Beautiful day out there today.
July 16 - Finished off the Noreast Tourney with Arnie and Don. We had nice action early in the morning, but unfortunately we did not get anything over 5 lbs. I just would like to thank Arnie, Don, Bill and Silas for a most enjoyable first fishing tourney I did. Although competition was fierce, the fun, laughs and incredible fluke bite was priceless!
July 15 - Fished the Noreast fluke tourney today with Bill and Silas. We did not get any big guys for the tourney, but we did limit out with fluke to 23".
Fluking continues to be outstanding with everyday getting better then the next.
July 12 - No charter today, I did a fishing T.V show with the boys from Northeast Angling, it will air on Fox Sport in October!
July 10 - Morning trip with the boys was awesome! Non stop action the whole morning with the boys (CJ, Frankie & Alec) kicking there Dad's butt in! Afternoon trip with Vilcor and Frank was just as good with the fluke bite pretty much non-stop. Keepers were between 18" and 20" today, but boy were they fat! One of my clients dropped a mini doormat today (but it was my fault, I didn't get to him fast enough with the net)about 7 or 8 lbs. I'm still kicking myself in the you know what over it. Sorry Frankie.
July 9 - Hearty fluke to 20" came over the rails today. Fluking is still insane!
July 7 - Big fluke tonight were tough to find, but Bill and Silas did manage a few to 21" and we did "tweek" a 31" bass!
July 6 - Fished with Don today and we were just shy of our limit with fluke to 22".
July 1st - Evening Trip - Silas, Arnie and Bill limited out on fluke to 7 lbs (26"). The fluke were hitting aggressively on bucktails with "pink" teasers made by Silas himself.
July 1st - Morning Trip - Had the LaGiudice Family onboard. They caught fluke up to 23", non stop action all day having to net 3 fluke at a time!
June 30th - Night Trip - Raft Bass trip. Whoaa is all I have to say about this trip.
June 30th - Afternoon Trip - Paul, Alyssa and Sara caught fluke up to 20" and we were lucky to get into a Porgy blitz that resulted in 16" Porgy's. First time I every witnessed Porgy's blitzen like blues, it was wild!
June 30th - Morning Trip - Had two lovely ladies out, Judith and Carol that caught fluke up to 20".
June 26 - Been spoiled with all the good Fluking around, but had to give Bass a try last night with Don and Willy. We only landed one bass to 26", lost several runoffs and caught about a dozen blues. Next month the Bass should be in strong in the sound. So back to Fluking till then.
June 23 - Morning charter with Steve and Doug was non stop action with a mix bag of fluke, blues and bass. Night charter with Don also went well with fluke to 20" and bass to 26". Pretty much non stop action the whole day. Tons of sandeels in the area have made for awesome fishing, never knowing what your going to bring up.
June 21 - For a day I was suppose to be resting, didn't happen. Limitted out with fluke all between 22" & 25". Largest 6 1/2 pounds, caught by me, imagine that....Had sis on board and she got her first keeper bass. We caught bass today 26", 28" and 30". Don't know how many blues. What a day! Fishing is on fire guys!
June 19 - Well we were suppose to target fluke today, but we couldn't get our bucktails to the bottorm without hitting a blue. We even hooked into to a 26" striper. Thanks Guy and Steve for letting me fish today, I cannot contain myself when we are in 8ft of water, a nice rip going, sandeels spritzen and bass and blues blitzen! God I love summer!!!
June 18 - Despite all the boat traffic today the Sauer family still managed fluke to 22" , with four year old Amanda getting the biggest.
June 17 - Today's fluking topped last night, now I really cannot type! Tarr family knocked em dead today......Five year old Jamie kicked her Dad's you know what in with a 25 incher!
June 16 - Fluking on fire! I'm to excited to write the details!!
June 14 - Fluke to 6lbs came in today. They were hitting before we got our bait to the bottom! Fluke are in! Yabbbadabbadooo!!!!
June 12 - Blues on the chunk this morning. All between 23" and 26". I tried a new location fluking today, ton of action but all shorts. Almost every fluke was 17 1/2".
June 9 - Some nice fluking this morning with fluke in the 3 1/2 lb range. Most action I have seen since the openner.
June 5 - Fished with Dan, Dillion and John tonight. Beautiful night out on the water. We fished Mt. Sinai, Port Jeff, Rocky Point and Wading River, our efforts produced one keeper fluke, 15 shorts between 15" and 17", 5 gigantic skates, and about 20 searobins. But the important thing was I was able to get the Yankee game in for the crew.
May 31 - Fog kept us in from fluke fishing in the sound. Fished local for over 40 schoolies up to 26". Schoolies are getting a little bigger, maybe next time out we will get a keeper.
May 28 - Well you couldn't ask for a more beautiful day on the water today. Todays charter managed a 5 lb fluke at Cranes, but other then that fluking was on the slow side. Ton of bait in the water. With the weather getting warmer and the bait in place Fluke fishing should bust open this week! I have Weds open if anyone is interested.
May 19 - 26 - The fluking has been slow. We had alot of rain and high winds that I feel did a number on the water condtions. With the weather getting warmer this week and light winds I think fluking is going to bust loose. On a funny note.....me and my girlfriend fished in the pooring rain and fog last night. We were the only 2 nuts out there, but you know what we had a blast, catching and releasing over 30 schoolie bass and blues.
May 17 - Fluking was slow today, just a few shorts. Some cocktail size blues breaking on the way in kept us busy. Think the water needs to settle from the last week of storms.
May 8th - 30 bass caught and released. All schoolies up to 22" May 7th - First fluke charter for the season. Beautiful day out, but unfortunately the bite was slow. Just a few shorts to 17".
